Community Leadership award 2024
Community Leadership Award presented to the Ottawa Ice Lightning Coaching Staff in recognition of recipient’s significant contributions to the Ottawa Ice Lightning Hockey Club Community. Through recipient’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to promoting both hockey and community engagement, recipient has not only nurtured young athletes but also fostered a spirit of teamwork, inclusion, and excellence. Recipient’s efforts have had a lasting impact on the lives of young athletes and the broader community, helping to build a vibrant and supportive environment.

Daniel Nie
Daniel Nie’s tenure with OILHC has been marked by significant growth and development. Starting as an on-ice helper at age of 8 in 2014, Daniel has been with the club every year, progressing to Head Coach in 2021 and Coach Advisor in 2024. Throughout this journey, Daniel has consistently fostered a positive and inclusive environment for all players, parents, and coaches. His effective communication skills and ability to build strong, trusting relationships have played a pivotal role in creating a culture where young athletes feel comfortable and motivated to perform at their best.

Simon Yang
A special acknowledgment goes to Simon Yang, an experienced Junior B hockey player who joined the Ice Lightning in 2018. Simon has demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and ability in his role as Head Coach and Coach Advisor of the Ottawa Ice Lightning Hockey Club, further enhancing the success and development of the club and its members.

COACHING AND VOLUNTEERING FAQS
1) Do I need any certification to coach with the ice lightning club?
No. Although hockey /skating experience is a must in order to volunteer with on ice activities.
2) Do I need any certification to volunteer with the ice lightning club?
Absolutely not. Simply contact us and lets have a chat.
3) Do I need to have any hockey experience to volunteer with the ice lightning club?
No. Although hockey experience is a must in order to volunteer with on ice activities, there are many opportunities that involve absolutely no hockey skill or knowledge.
4) Can I volunteer as a Coach / Assistant Coach on a team?
Yes. Most coaches would highly appreciate help with coaching / training. We are here to serve the community.
